The new Ra LP 2012 fan drive!

This is one of my favourite bands that I listen to regularly. They are not very well known in South Africa as I have not seen any of their albums in the stores or online. I have been listening to their music since 2002 with From One album to Black Sheep and have followed them over the years.

I found this 3 days ago and I had to jump to the occasion. Sahaj from Ra has started a fan drive on Kickstarter.com to fund them for their new album! I of course am backing them!

If you have heard of the band or you want to pledge go here, Ra Kickstarter Page. There is only 5 days left and it ends on Sunday the 15th July!

Ra is an American alternative metal band from Los Angeles, California, taking their name from the Egyptian sun god.
Ra is generally called “nu metal with an exotic twist”. The twist is the Indian or Arabian mode that is used in many songs. Sahaj says, “The great thing about it is that you can play the meanest Meshuggah, heaviest rock riff you could possibly imagine under any scale and if you sing over it in a harmonic minor scale it doesn’t lose its heaviness, but it also doesn’t lose its melody. It still manages to be cool, but also melodic.

Here is one of their songs from the album From One – Do You Call My Name.

And one of him doing acoustic of Do You Call My Name.
